Congratulations on finishing Form Six! 🎉 This is such an exciting time in your life. Now you’re probably wondering: “What’s next? How do I get into university?”
Don’t worry! This guide will make university admission super simple to understand. We’ll show you exactly what results you need and how to apply to your dream university in Tanzania!
When you get your Form Six results, you’ll see several important things:
Points: Each grade gives you certain points:
– A = 5 points
– B = 4 points
– C = 3 points
– D = 2 points
– E = 1 point
– F = 0 points
Principal Passes: These are subjects where you got A, B, C, or D
Subsidiary Passes: These are subjects where you got E
General Studies: This is shown separately from your other subjects
Your total points and number of principal passes are super important for university admission!
Different universities in Tanzania ask for different minimum points. Here’s what you need for some popular universities:
University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM):
– Medicine: 9 points (3 principal passes in PCB/CBG)
– Engineering: 8 points (3 principal passes with Physics & Math)
– Law: 7 points (3 principal passes)
– Business: 6 points (2 principal passes)
Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA):
– Veterinary Medicine: 8 points (3 principal passes in PCB/CBG)
– Agriculture: 6 points (2 principal passes in science subjects)
– Forestry: 5 points (2 principal passes)
University of Dodoma (UDOM):
– Medicine: 8 points (3 principal passes in PCB/CBG)
– Education: 5 points (2 principal passes)
– Social Sciences: 4 points (2 principal passes)
Muhimbili University (MUHAS):
– Medicine: 10 points (3 principal passes in PCB)
– Nursing: 7 points (3 principal passes in science subjects)
– Pharmacy: 9 points (3 principal passes in PCB/CBG)
Remember, these are just the MINIMUM points. Having more points gives you a better chance!

Here are the most popular programs in Tanzania and what you need to get in:
Medicine and Health Sciences:
– Subjects needed: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)
– Minimum points: 8-10 points
– Additional requirements: Good General Studies grade, interview
Engineering:
– Subjects needed: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM)
– Minimum points: 7-9 points
– Additional requirements: Strong Mathematics grade
Law:
– Subjects needed: History, English, Geography (HEG) or HKL
– Minimum points: 7-8 points
– Additional requirements: Good English grade, essay test
Business and Economics:
– Subjects needed: Economics, Mathematics, Geography (EGM)
– Minimum points: 6-7 points
– Additional requirements: Good Mathematics grade
Education:
– Subjects needed: Depends on what you want to teach
– Minimum points: 5-6 points
– Additional requirements: Interview
Computer Science:
– Subjects needed: Mathematics, Physics (MP)
– Minimum points: 6-8 points
– Additional requirements: Aptitude test at some universities

Applying to university in Tanzania is like following a recipe. Just follow these steps:
Step 1: Get Your Results
Make sure you have your official Form Six results slip
Step 2: Check the TCU Website
The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) manages all applications
Visit: www.tcu.go.tz
Step 3: Create Your TCU Account
– Click “Student Registration”
– Fill in your personal details
– Use an email you check regularly
– Create a strong password
Step 4: Fill in Your Academic Information
– Enter your Form IV results
– Enter your Form VI results exactly as they appear on your results slip
– Upload scanned copies of your certificates
Step 5: Choose Your Programs
– You can select up to 8 programs
– Arrange them in order of preference (your top choice first!)
– Make sure you meet the minimum requirements for each program
Step 6: Pay Application Fee
– The fee is usually around 30,000 TZS
– You can pay through mobile money or bank deposit
Step 7: Submit and Wait
– Double-check everything before submitting
– Print your application summary for your records
– Wait for admission results (usually announced in July-August)
